Personal Notes File

Check Version... Command

Purpose

The Check Version command can be used to see whether the running version of NOTEFILE is the latest supported or not. In case you are running an out-of-date version of NOTEFILE, you are urged to update to the latest version.

To check the latest version of NOTEFILE

  1. From the Tools menu choose Check Version....
  2. If the currently running version of NOTEFILE is the same as the latest supported version, you will be informed that you are up-to-date.
  3. Otherwise, a warning message will be displayed to urge you to update to the latest version.

NOTEFILE compares the running version with the one available at my Web site. If your computer does not have access to Internet or somehow my Web site is not available at that moment, you will get an error message. You may try later when you are online. Please contact me if the error persists.

Messages

You are using version xx.xx. The latest available version is yy.yy. Please upgrade.
If the number xx.xx is smaller than yy.yy, you should upgrade your version of NOTEFILE. Please note that only the latest version of NOTEFILE is supported. If the number xx.xx is larger than yy.yy, then you are probably using a beta version. If the running version of NOTEFILE is the latest supported version, then you should see the following informational message instead: Congratulations! You are using the latest version (xx.xx).

Error messages

If you get errors like Could not initialize OpenSSL library or VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found:

  • for Windows you may need to download the latest openssl-*-win64.zip file from IndySockets / OpenSSL-Binaries and extract the two *.dll files into the directory containing the notefile.exe executable;
  • for Linux you may need to run
    $ sudo apt install libssl1.1

and retry this menu option.
