Three weeks in Italy
(10 Sept-02 Oct 2005)

Day 7 (Friday, Sept 16, 2005)

Next morning after breakfast we headed directly to the ruins of Selinunte... once a beautiful city and main port town Selinunte is a vast place with ruins of many temples...

Next we drove to Agrigento, another ancient Greek city... here the valley of Temples is an wonderful and calm place... the largest and well preserved temple is the Concord temple... in the last photo below you can see a statue on th ground which once was a column of a very large temple...

After Agrigento we drove inland to Piazza Armerina to visit the wonderful mosaics in Villa Romana del Casale... the villa was reconstructed with glass walls to preserve the mosaics...

We had spent much time in Sicily so we skipped Syracusa which was out of road and we drove to Catania... after Catania keeping mount Etna at our left we reache the beautiful Giardini Naxos town... a wonderful place to stay... a beautiful coastal street with plenty of hotels, restaurants and beahces... we had a wonderful dinner...

It could have been a nice trip up to the Etna mountain but this would cost us at least half a day...

Something that came toour attention was that almost in all of the coastal cities the main Piazza's and entertainment places were not on the seaside but rather inland... the seaside was almost everywere left for the port... but Giardini Naxos was different... it was one of my favorite places in Italy... the hotel we stayed was a beautiful one too (Hotel La Riva)...
